Miriam Margolyes has finally landed a part in Call the Midwife after badgering bosses for years. The Harry Potter star, 76, will play feisty Sister Mildred in the Christmas special, and will then become a regular guest star. An insider said: “Miriam’s been asking for a role for years. She’s a huge fan and we’re thrilled an appropriate part’s come up.” Sister Mildred arrives unexpectedly at Nonnatus House, her hands full with four Hong Kong orphans being adopted as part of the World Refugee Project. She quickly makes her mark and settles in – much to the relief of Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter) who finds herself a reluctant contender for the role of Mother Superior. Also joining as regulars are Fenella Woolgar as Sister Hilda, Ella Bruccoleri as Sister Frances and Georgie Glen as Dr Turner’s indomitable new receptionist Miss Higgins.
