Leaf to kickstart a wider push to get electric vehicles going in Australia. Nissan Australia has announced plans to make a third of its total volume electrified by 2022, led by the new Leaf electric vehicle.Announced at an event in Sydney today, the electric push is part of Nissan’s global M.O.V.E. to 2022 plan, and is designed to establish it as a leader on electric vehicles in Australia.Along with the Leaf electric vehicle, Stephen Lester, Nissan Australia managing director, has previously confirmed e-Power hybrid vehicles will be part of the line-up going forward. He hasn’t, however, confirmed which models will be coming with that drivetrain.”Electrified vehicles will represent a third of Nissan volume in Australia during our mid-term plan,” Lester said today.”By introducing more electric alternatives on several of our key models, we will make mass-market electrification a reality.”Along with its own backyard, Nissan is taking a stand on the wider state of electrification in Australia, quoting a study claiming 63 per cent of motorists feel the shift to electrification is inevitable.
