Bernie Sanders is running for president again, and that’s great news for Donald Trump, whose best hope to win re-election is for Democrats to blow it by overreaching.Sanders is a good man, a champion of economic justice long before it was stylish. But he’s an ineffective politician, a loner who has never shown much interest in building the broad coalition needed to win a national election, or even to pass important bills in the Senate. If you want to express your fury at America’s descent into oligarchy, Sanders is your man. If you want real change, he’s not.Consider his bill on Medicare for All. It would establish a system similar to Canada’s, with guaranteed coverage for everyone, paid for with tax dollars. Their system costs much less, achieves better outcomes, and is quite popular.
