Here's how to reform and save RTD Re: "Save RTD by leaving FasTracks in the past and funding the agency," March 6 editorial I agree with The Denver Post editorial regarding its suggested strategies for RTD to move beyond the current situation of service cutbacks and inadequate funding. I feel compelled to clarify one point made in the editorial about choosing between focusing on core services to the transit-dependent or increasing ridership if additional funding is not available. These are not mutually exclusive goals. During the height of the pandemic, it was necessary to focus on providing service to front-line workers and make tough decisions on service cuts amid plummeting ridership. But as we recover, we need to increase transit ridership by focusing on core services being restored to pre-pandemic levels. As gas prices rise and traffic congestion continues to increase, provision of fast, reliable and frequent transit service on core routes can lead to increased ridership. Transit agencies must always have a goal of increasing ridership and serving transit-dependent populations.
