Madhya Pradesh hold firm to lift maiden Ranji Trophy title

RANJI TROPHY 2022 by Cricbuzz Staff • Last updated on Share Tweet Rajat Patidar hit the winning runs for MP. © Cricbuzz Madhya Pradesh thwarted Mumbai’s attempt to win the Ranji Trophy for the 42nd time, and instead etched their name in history as first-time winners, with coach Chandrakant Pandit winning his sixth title in India’s premier First-Class tournament. Madhya Pradesh had started the final day as favourites, after bagging a massive first innings lead. However, Mumbai were threatening to make a match of it by first wiping out the deficit and then building a lead. All of Mumbai’s batters came out with the intention of scoring quick runs and were successful in that pursuit for a while. Although overnight batter Armaan Jaffer fell after just adding seven more runs, both Suved Parkar and Sarfaraz Khan raised Mumbai’s hopes with a sprightly 53-run stand for the fourth wicket off just 49 balls. The former hit a fifty as well before he was prised out by Kumar Kartikeya. Mumbai wobbled in that period with Kartikeya also accounting for Yashasvi Jaiswal for just 1.
