close Video Pentagon says National Guard will remain in DC until March Lt. Col. Bob Maginnis on ‘CAVUTO Live’ discusses the Pentagon reporting that the National Guard will remain in D.C. until mid-March. Members of Michigan ’s National Guard have complained of receiving undercooked meals or food containing metal shavings during their stay in Washington, D.C., to protect the U.S. Capitol , according to news reports, as lawmakers from the state call for a new food provider. The disclosures -- which first surfaced in Michigan news outlets -- were the latest reports of alleged mistreatment of National Guard personnel in the nation’s capital, where Guard members from several states were deployed both before and after the Jan. 6 riot. Savoring Your Food to Heal Your Food Obsessions
Source: digitalskillet/Shutterstock Carla (not her real name) was a 39-year-old woman, originally from Puerto Rico, who came to my office because she was unhappy with her size and said she wanted to "get in better shape before my fortieth birthday." She was very vibrant, energetic, and talkative. She reported on the numerous diets she had been on in the past and how much weight she’d regained after each one. She was now eating “only healthy and clean” foods and had begun weight lifting. She felt that all of the foods she had grown up with were “bad” so she had stopped going to her mother’s house for Sunday dinner or eating in Puerto Rican restaurants in her neighborhood. She had difficulty perceiving when she was physically hungry and when she was full. Her enjoyment of food had diminished significantly on her new diet and she felt caught in a vicious circle of longing to eat and depriving herself of food. You may be like Carla in that you divide foods into “good” and … [Read more...] about Savoring Your Food to Heal Your Food Obsessions
Can you actually learn to cook from watching food shows? We gave it a go
My skills in the kitchen are singular: I am exceptionally talented in the field of dishwashing. I’m so good, in fact, that the epitaph on my tombstone could conceivably read, “She couldn’t poach an egg, but boy, could she make a teaspoon sparkle.” In short, I do not cook – I am cooked for . Unless parboiling tofu at Hai Di Lao counts as cooking – in which case, yes, I am Gordon Ramsay. But here’s my confession: In spite of not having actually cooked a meal since I was in university – and even then, only out of sheer necessity – I love watching food programmes. Travelling the world in search of gastronomic indulgences on Best Places To Pig Out? My kind of entertainment. All those little kids on Chopped Junior making piquant sauces out of jawbreakers? Gripping stuff. Giada De Laurentiis tossing fettuccine in tomato sauce while wearing a white shirt? Suspenseful and satisfying. So, when my editor challenged me to make a three-course meal, with each course originating … [Read more...] about Can you actually learn to cook from watching food shows? We gave it a go
Join a food crawl for some Japanese food and sake, off-menu desserts and cocktails
Sundays are usually known as brunch days. But brunch is so, well, mainstream. Instead of an unstructured in-between morning meal, we’re in favour of an unstructured in-between afternoon meal. Why? Because then you get to sleep in, and afternoons are longer than mornings, which means more uninterrupted eating time, of course. On Jul 28, from 3pm to 5pm, we’ll be having one of our CNA Lifestyle Experiences events that fits this bill perfectly. It will be a leisurely food crawl at Raffles City, where we’ll fill up on a variety of yummy Japanese dishes, each with its own sake pairing, at Sushi Tei; then pop over to The Botanic for dessert and cocktails in a gorgeous garden setting while watching the world go by. READ: CNA Lifestyle Experiences: Becoming Singapore heritage tour and MasterChef lunch The event is exclusive to CNA Lifestyle Facebook followers – once you've followed us, check out the sign-up details at the bottom of the page. You've got until Jul 22 to do so. … [Read more...] about Join a food crawl for some Japanese food and sake, off-menu desserts and cocktails
Commentary: How instant noodles became a symbol of workaholics everywhere
SINGAPORE: My love for instant noodles began when I was a teenager. A latchkey kid through my secondary school and junior college years, instant noodles was something that I could whip up in a jiffy as a late lunch when I returned home from school. These days, my culinary repertoire extends beyond instant food. However, the love affair continues. My kitchen cabinet is stocked with at least five different types of noodles for when the craving hits. Whenever I travel, especially in Asia where there’s a mind boggling variety of instant ramen, I make it a point to visit a convenience store or supermarket to pick out a few local flavours to try and even bring home as souvenirs. In the 61 years since its invention - Japanese entrepreneur Momofuku Ando invented instant noodles in the post-war era as a way to ease the country’s food shortage - this humble item has become a global staple, a fast and easy meal for everyone from poor college students to overworked individuals. But … [Read more...] about Commentary: How instant noodles became a symbol of workaholics everywhere
