KUALA LUMPUR: Percikan api berterbangan apabila Yip Yoke Lin, 74 tahun, meletakkan pisau tukang masak Cina yang sedang diasahnya pada sudut 30 darjah dari permukaan meja. Setelah melayang pisau tersebut beberapa kali pada mesin pengasah, beliau menguji ketajamannya dengan melayangkan jarinya pada mata pisau dengan berhati-hati. “Ini asah ‘kasar’. Setelah berpuas hati, saya akan meletakkannya di atas meja kerja dan mengasah mata pisau menggunakan batu pengasah pula,” kata beliau. Kakak beliau, Yip Ah Moy, 84 tahun, yang bongkok dimamah usia, turut sama melakukan kerja mengasah pisau pelanggan lain. Beliau melayangkan mata pisau pada batu dengan lembut bermula dari bahagian bilah pisau yang berdekatan hulu hingga ke hujungnya. KUALA LUMPUR: Barangan keperluan harian 10 sen (US$0.03), perkhidmatan teksi 10 sen dan rumah transit yang mengenakan bayaran RM1 sehari. Semua ini merupakan sebahagian daripada usaha murni Kuan Chee Heng, 57, pengasas Persatuan Kepolisan Komuniti Malaysia iaitu sebuah organisasi bukan kerajaan (NGO) yang membantu golongan kurang bernasib baik. Untuk Pasar 10 Sen anjuran beliau, Kuan menerima barangan terpakai yang disumbangkan oleh orang ramai termasuk pakaian, perkakas, malah pernah juga sebuah kereta. Najib admits he did not use MySejahtera app, will accept fine
PETALING JAYA: Former premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak has admitted to not checking-in using his MySejahtera app before dining-in for a meal in the city. In a Facebook post on Friday (March 19), Najib said he would pay the fine and called for no double-standards. "Yes, it was true. I dined at Kedai Nasi Ayam Chee Meng, which is popular in Kuala Lumpur. Many Muslims come here, too. "Following an arrangement, I was brought straight into the restaurant upon arrival. "I admit my mistake this time for not checking-in although my other officers did so," he said on Friday (March 19). NSC allows passage of Batu Caves Thaipusam chariot, no stops allowed and limited to 10 people
PETALING JAYA: The National Security Council (NSC) has given the nod for the Thaipusam chariot to be moved from the Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Dhevasthanam in Jalan Tun HS Lee to the Batu Caves temple on Jan 27. In a tweet on Saturday (Jan 23), Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said approval had also been given for the chariot to return on Jan 29, a day after Thaipusam. However, he said the chariot would not be allowed to make any stops along the way, a maximum of 10 people would be allowed to accompany the chariot and no music would be allowed along the way. "DBKL (Kuala Lumpur City Hall) will be monitoring to ensure compliance as usual," he said. The Sri Maha Mariamman Temple Dhevasthanam management had proposed for the chariot to continue with its customary journey but without the usual procession and for the non-stop journey back after the celebration. TechInvention partners Eubiologics to bring oral cholera vaccine to India
New Delhi: TechInvention Lifecare has tied up with South Korea-based biopharmaceutical firm Eubiologics Co Ltd for bringing in oral cholera vaccine 'Euvichol-Plus' to India. The vaccine is prequalified by the World Health Organization (WHO), TechInvention Lifecare Pvt Ltd said in a statement. Eubiologics has so far supplied 55 million doses to UN healthcare agencies. Euvichol-Plus has been supplied to around 22 countries across the globe, it added. "It is our endeavour to bring in a WHO prequalified oral cholera vaccine (OCV) in India for managing potential outbreak risk caused due to the often-neglected disease like cholera," TechInvention Founder and CEO Syed Ahmed said.
