Russian prison service transfers Alexei Navalny to hospital
The Russian state penitentiary service (FSIN) on Monday said it had decided to move opposition leader Alexei Navalny , currently in the third week of a hunger strike , to a hospital for prisoners. The statement said Navalny's condition was considered "satisfactory" and that he had agreed to some nutritional treatment. "The patient has given his consent that vitamins be prescribed to him," the statement read. Navalny was held at a prison colony known for its harsh discipline in the town of Pokrov some 100 kilometers (about 60 miles) from Moscow. The FSIN said he was being moved to a hospital for convicts at another penal colony in the city of Vladimir that was specialized in "dynamic observation of such patients." EU discusses Russia strategy as tensions grow in Ukraine
European Union foreign ministers met at a virtual conference on Monday to reassess the bloc's options as Russia builds up its military presence at the Ukrainian border. The West has struggled to adequately counter recent actions by Moscow it considers reprehensible, including the treatment of jailed Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny. "All in all, the relations with Russia are not improving, but the contrary; the tension is increasing in different fronts," said the bloc's top diplomat, Josep Borrell, ahead of the meeting. "We call on Russia to withdraw their troops." A man was reduced to tears by the sight of a litter strewn beach as revellers made the most of eased coronavirus restrictions. Swansea Marina was a huge draw for people looking to blow off steam on the first weekend since lockdown restrictions were eased. While no one can be blamed for wanting to meet friends last seen before the second wave ripped across the country, the mess left behind has appalled locals, Wales Online reports.
