America’s busiest retired detective, Paul Holes , is joining the reboot of America’s Most Wanted , a new season of which is premiering on Fox on March 15th. Holes will be joining host, journalist Elizabeth Vargas, as an official expert. “I’m excited to be part of the iconic America’s Most Wanted family and to continue to contribute in any way, utilizing my own experience and expertise to help the AMW team catch criminals who are evading justice,” Holes tells Rolling Stone . Holes made his name hunting the infamous Golden State Killer through the Nineties and ’00s, a serial rapist and murderer suspected of committing at least 12 murders, 50 rapes, and 100 burglaries in California between 1974 and 1986. Samsung tells Texas it wants to create 1,800 jobs with a $17 billion factory in Austin
Samsung has submitted paperwork to Texas officials, requesting a billion dollars in tax incentives to make Austin the future home of the company’s $17 billion chip factory , as noted by Bloomberg and reported last month by the Austin American-Statesman . In the documents , which were filed in January, the company says it plans on bringing 1,800 permanent jobs to the factory over the first 10 years, with an average starting salary around $66K. In return, Samsung is asking for a break on its property taxes : it’s looking for a 100 percent break on its payments to Travis County for 20 years, which the company estimates would save it roughly $718 million, and a 50 percent break on the taxes to the City of Austin for five years, with an estimated $87 million. It also wants the state to subsidize its property tax payments to the school district. Sony files patent to help you use bananas as PS5 controllers
A new PlayStation patent appears to detail a literal banana as a PS5 controller. As first noted by GamesIndustry.biz , Sony has recently filed a patent for a new controller device. What's weird about this controller is that it looks exactly like a banana, as you can see in the image from the original patent filing just below. "It would be desirable if a user could use an inexpensive, simple and non-electronic device as a video game peripheral," the description with the original patent filing reads. "The present disclosure seeks to address or at least alleviate some of the above-identified problems." Furthermore, Sony's solution to this problem is a "non-luminous passive object being held by a user," and could be an item like a pen, orange, pencil, or even a banana. The patent filing by Sony is pretty loose, and only references an item like a banana as something that could theoretically be used as a simple controller. Right now, there isn't too much evidence to suggest … [Read more...] about Sony files patent to help you use bananas as PS5 controllers
‘We’re Vaccinated. Everyone Wants to Visit. Now What?’
If you’re younger-than-or-equal-to GenX, I think you’ll recognize this vibe: My mom and stepfather live in a little California beach town. They’re both over 75, and for the past year they’ve been careful as hell about exposures and risks to avoid getting Covid-19. She’s in good health; he’s not. And now, at last, they both are two weeks out from their second shot of the Pfizer vaccine. So of course, I got the email: “Three people have asked to come visit,” Mom wrote. “I am conflicted and not sure how to handle.” I don’t mean to put my stuff onto you, but these kinds of questions are only going to start coming faster and furiouser. More than half the old folks in the United States have been vaccinated against Covid-19—65 percent of people 75 years of age or older. That’s great news. It also means that more and more people are trying to figure out what happens next. Earlier this week, news leaked that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention were going to release long-awaited … [Read more...] about ‘We’re Vaccinated. Everyone Wants to Visit. Now What?’
