At the same time however, philanthropy and digital donations have become increasingly important in addressing pressing needs and contributing to the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). During the COVID-19 pandemic, many Indonesians have been expressing their generosity and supporting each other. The 2018 World Giving Index has acknowledged Indonesians as among the most generous countries in the world. With lockdowns and physical distancing restrictions in place during the pandemic, many have chosen to make their donations via online platforms to show their support and solidarity. The result is 60 percent higher than the initial target of over 5,000 units. The drive, launched by the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (NIHBT), together with the Hanoi Youth Association for Blood Donation and the Hanoi Steering Committee for Voluntary Blood Donation, aimed to address blood shortage in hospitals after Tet (Lunar New Year) holidays. MANILA, Philippines — China will donate another 400,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the Philippines, President Rodrigo Duterte announced Thursday. “China would give us another 400 [thousand] making their donation to this country 1 million,” Duterte said during the inauguration of school buildings in Valenzuela City. He did not mention the brand that would be donated. Duterte did not mention what vaccine brand would be donated this time. The Chinese government previously donated to the country 600,000 doses of Sinovac’s COVID-19 vaccine, CoronaVac. MANILA, Philippines — The United States has already donated a total of P97.2 billion ($2 billion) to the COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX) initiative, which the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines said is so far the largest contribution made to the global vaccine sharing scheme. The U.S. Embassy in the Philippines bared this figure as it welcomed the successful arrival of the 487,200 doses of COVID-19 vaccine from British-Swede firm AstraZeneca to the Philippines on Thursday through COVAX. “The United States already has donated Php97.2 billion ($2 billion) to COVAX, by far the largest contribution, to ensure the Philippines and other countries receive COVID-19 vaccines,” the U.S. Embassy said in a statement on Friday.
