Phuket Monopoly game creators need your help with token designs
Phuket is set to get its own version of the popular game MONOPOLY and its creators want your help with ideas for the specialised tokens. ‘MONOPOLY: Phuket Edition’ was announced last month which will see the street art on the board game replaced with that of famous places around Thailand’s famous tourist destination. Such art will include beaches, hotels, shops, markets and other popular attractions. Jennifer Lau from Winning Moves UK, is producing the game under official license from Monopoly brand owners, Hasbro. Lau says the tokens will feature a holiday theme. The token’s departure from the original theme of wheelbarrows, boots, iron, and thimbles as well as popular sports cars and hats. “We have had a wealth of emails and suggestions coming in for Phuket, so thank you for each and every single one of them! We are taking them all into consideration whilst putting together the design of the game.” “We wanted to change the tokens so that they would be more suitable for an … [Read more...] about Phuket Monopoly game creators need your help with token designs
Koh Lanta villagers seek media help to end dumping ‘health issue’
PHUKET: Villagers in Koh Lanta, east of Phuket, have appealed to the Krabi Press Club to help resolve health problems caused by the recent burning of rubbish at a landfill which they say local authorities have ignored. “We have asked the OrBorTor Saladan [in Koh Lanta] to solve the problem, but nothing has been done,” said Phakob Solaem, a local laundry shop owner. Smoke from burning garbage is causing respiratory problems, residents say, and the noxious smell from the dump permeates houses. Waste dropped on the road leading to the dump also creates a driving hazard. “More than 100 households, including tourist bungalows and restaurants, are affected,” Mr Phakob explained. The Krabi Press Club visited the two rai dump and met with some of the villagers on March 7. “Smoke from garbage burning at the landfill affects people up to two kilometers away. Many people are sick because of it, especially children aged 3 to 5 years old,” Hod Wahab, a 52-year-old villager, said. “I … [Read more...] about Koh Lanta villagers seek media help to end dumping ‘health issue’
Phuket Marine Police help thirsty sea gypsies
PHUKET: Koh Sireh sea gypsies received 6,000 liters of water yesterday after they told Phuket Marine Police they had a water shortage. “It is not our job to do this, but we have a good relationship with the Koh Sireh sea gypsies,” said Marine Police Inspector Chatchai Sakdee. “And if we can do something to help people, we will.” “When they told us about their water problem, we contacted the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation-Phuket, and they took over two truckfuls of water.” Pisak Chonlayut, manager of the Phuket Water Authority (PWA), said that there is not a water shortage, but that Koh Sireh has low water pressure because it is the last stop for water that travels through pipes from Bang Jo. “The pipe is more than 20 kilometers long. It starts in the Bang Jo area and runs along Thepkrasattri Road to provide water to Thalang, Srisoonthorn, Pa Khlok, Koh Kaew, Sapam, Kuku and Koh Sireh,” said Mr Pisak. “It is hard for water to travel over the Baan Kuku hill in … [Read more...] about Phuket Marine Police help thirsty sea gypsies
Unemployed Phuket tour bus staffers plead for help
PHUKET: Local tour operator staff made redundant by companies using their own buses, drivers and guides to provide tours of Phuket appealed yesterday to the Governor’s Office for help in alleviating their plight. Kanlaya Rakvaree, the lead representative of the group, explained that many local jobs had been lost to companies that no longer hire Phuket tour companies to conduct tours of the island. “Our jobs have been stolen by companies from outside Phuket,” Ms Kanlaya said. “In the past, companies in other provinces hired local buses and staff to provide tours to their customers. “But now, almost all companies providing tours in Phuket are not based on the island. They have their own buses, which are not registered in Phuket, and their own drivers, who are not from Phuket.” Ms Kanlaya, who was made redundant three months ago, expressed her concern specifically about tour bus drivers from off-island. “These drivers have no experience in Phuket, They are not familiar with … [Read more...] about Unemployed Phuket tour bus staffers plead for help
