Rhode Island Community Unites in Support of Pizza Shop Owner Battling Cancer

The city of Warwick, Rhode Island, rallied behind the owner of Don’s Pizza after a battle with stage 4 cancer forced him to close. Donald Ryan is a staple of the Warwick community. His business, “Don’s Pizza,” served Warwick residents for 39 years before his mortal battle against cancer finally forced him to close its doors. Ryan has been fighting stage 4 prostate cancer for two years. He recently learned the cancer had spread. Longtime customer Joanne Miller said the loss was more than just good pizza. “He wasn’t just serving pizza. He served love and friendship, sponsored so many teams,” she told local channel WPRI. “He is just there for the community as much as they are here for him now, he was there for them.” Miller was inspired to repay that kindness. “It was just a divine appointment maybe. My mom wanted a pizza that night and Don’s is right around the corner and I know he’s got great pizza,” she recalled. “His phone was out and when I met him he told me about his … [Read more...] about Rhode Island Community Unites in Support of Pizza Shop Owner Battling Cancer

Meet the woman who went to a remote island alone to watch films for a week

Heading to a remote barren island to spend a week alone may sound like the start of a thriller, but that's exactly what Lisa Enroth signed up to do. When the Göteborg Film Festival 2021 opened up applications to watch its 60 films in the 'Isolated Cinema' on a remote island off a Swedish archipelago, the committee was inundated with 12,000 hopefuls within two weeks despite the fact that the experience meant you'd be alone on the barren island with seven days' worth of supplies, and no phone allowed. None of this deterred Lisa, a Swedish emergency nurse who's been on the frontline during Covid-19. She caught the committee's attention, and a few weeks later was making the boat trip across to island Pater Noster. So, was it strange to spend a week alone on an island like this? She told the Mirror exclusively: "Not strange. More peaceful. I tend to spend a lot of my spare time alone, especially in these strange times. The strange bit was not being able to speak to my friends at … [Read more...] about Meet the woman who went to a remote island alone to watch films for a week

Did Police Corruption Derail the Long Island Serial Killer Investigation?

In December 2010, law enforcement found four bodies along a scrub-covered stretch of highway on the south coast of Long Island. The following spring, six more sets of human remains were found in the same area. Six of the victims have been identified as young women who were sex workers. Four, including a toddler and a person with male anatomy remain unidentified. In late 2011, authorities announced they were looking for one murderer responsible for all of the deaths. A decade later, the mystery, which became known as the Long Island serial killer case, remains unsolved. A new podcast looks at why. Hosted by crime podcast veterans Billy Jensen ( The Murder Squad ) and Alexis Linkletter ( The First Degree ), Unraveled: Long Island Serial Killer — and its accompanying TV special premiering March 9th on Discovery+ — examines how corruption in the Suffolk County Police Department may have stymied the investigation of one of the biggest homicide cases in Long Island … [Read more...] about Did Police Corruption Derail the Long Island Serial Killer Investigation?
