The artificial intelligence boom isn’t slowing yet, with new figures showing a 34.5 percent increase in the publication of AI research from 2019 to 2020. That’s a higher percentage growth than 2018 to 2019 when the volume of publications increased by 19.6 percent. China continues to be a growing force in AI R&D, overtaking the US for overall journal citations in artificial intelligence research last year. The country already publishes more AI papers than any other country, but the United States still has more cited papers at AI conferences — one indicator of the novelty and significance of the underlying research. These figures come from the fourth annual AI Index, a collection of statistics, benchmarks, and milestones meant to gauge global progress in artificial intelligence. The report is collated with the help of Stanford University, and you can read all 222 pages here . In many ways, the report confirms trends identified in past years : the sheer volume of AI … [Read more...] about Artificial intelligence research continues to grow as China overtakes US in AI journal citations

COVID-19: San Diego Zoo’s great apes given experimental coronavirus vaccine after becoming infected
A number of great apes have been given an experimental COVID-19 vaccine following an outbreak of the virus at a zoo in California. Four orangutans and five bonobos have each received two doses of a jab developed by Zoetis, a veterinary pharmaceutical company, National Geographic reported. Live COVID updates from the UK and around the world Among those jabbed is Karen, who became the first orangutan in the world to have open-heart surgery in 1994. There have been no adverse reactions to the jabs and the apes are doing well, said San Diego Zoo's chief conservation and wildlife health officer, Nadine Lamberski. Advertisement Blood taken from Karen and one of the bonobos should soon show whether they are developing antibodies, indicating that the vaccine is working. Ms Lamberski told National Geographic that she decided to go ahead with immunisation despite the vaccine having only previously been tested on cats and dogs. More from Covid-19 … [Read more...] about COVID-19: San Diego Zoo’s great apes given experimental coronavirus vaccine after becoming infected
The Subtle Art of Taming Your Mindset
Source: Mickey A. Feher/MindsetMaps International Mindset is a tricky phenomenon. It is often like being on autopilot but without awareness of the program. For example, a CEO client of mine likes to state that feedback is very important. Yet when it comes to critical moments, he absolutely shuts down and doesn't listen to anyone. When he thinks business is as usual, though, he asks for a lot of feedback, often from people with questionable expertise, and allows himself to be influenced. His goal is to scale his business, but his mindset seems to be a real obstacle with a constant change of direction. Another client, a senior leader , is looking for more satisfaction from her work. She has been with the same company for over a decade. Her mindset has created an impassable obstacle. She believes that she can either choose to do the thing she loves and give up her financial security or do the work she hates and be secure. She says it feels like being on a leash... and not … [Read more...] about The Subtle Art of Taming Your Mindset
Maza Russian cybercriminal forum suffers data breach
The Maza cybercriminal forum has reportedly suffered a data breach leading to the leak of user information. On March 3, Flashpoint researchers detected the breach on Maza -- once known as Mazafaka -- which has been online since at least 2003. Maza is a closed and heavily-restricted forum for Russian-speaking threat actors. The community has been connected to carding -- the trafficking of stolen financial data and payment card information -- and the discussion of topics including malware, exploits, spam, money laundering, and more. Once the forum was compromised, the attackers who took the forum over posted a warning message claiming "Your data has been leaked / This forum has been hacked." Information including user IDs, usernames, email addresses, messenger app links -- including Skype, MSN, and Aim -- and passwords, both hashed and obfuscated -- were included in the data leak. Flashpoint told ZDNet roughly 2,000 accounts were exposed. During discussions concerning the … [Read more...] about Maza Russian cybercriminal forum suffers data breach
Singapore students bag top medals at international science, math, geography competitions
SINGAPORE: Singapore students have excelled in a number of international competitions in the past couple of months, winning top accolades in subjects like physics, chemistry, mathematics and geography. The competitions, held from July to September, took place in various cities around the world, said the Ministry of Education (MOE) on Wednesday (Jul 12). Participants were from schools which include Raffles Institution, Hwa Chong Institution, NUS High School of Mathematics and Science and Eunoia Junior College. At the International Young Physicists' Tournament held in Beijing, the Singapore team emerged overall champion out of 31 other competing countries and territories. The tournament is organised around “physics fights” that mimic discussions at research conferences, where participants present their research and provide constructive feedback on the work of other teams, MOE said in a media release. At the International Mathematical Olympiad held in Romania, the Singapore team … [Read more...] about Singapore students bag top medals at international science, math, geography competitions
