PARIS: Plans for a breakaway Super League announced by twelve of European football's most powerful clubs plunged European football into an unprecedented crisis on Monday, with threats of legal action and possible bans for players, as UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin called it a "spit in the face" for supporters. Six Premier League teams — Liverpool, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur — joined forces with Spanish giants Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid and Italian trio Juventus, Inter Milan and AC Milan to launch the planned competition. Those clubs have 40 European Cups between them, including a record 13 for Real Madrid and seven for Milan. Yet they have decided to break away from the UEFA-sanctioned Champions League and start their new competition "as soon as possible", with plans for three more founding members to join and for five other clubs to be invited annually. The competition threatens to completely shake up the … [Read more...] about ‘Spit in the face’: Super League leads to unprecedented conflict in European football

‘Onus on bosses to register workers’

The National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme coordinating minister said employers must get their workers registered, regardless of whether they had proper documentation, lapsed documentation or were undocumented. For the registration of refugees, Khairy said his ministry would be working with the Home Ministry. “Migrant workers in factories and various industries will be vaccinated in Phase Three and during the economic sector phase, which will probably start in June when we have enough vaccine supplies. “For refugees who carry the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) cards, we will work with the United Nations to vaccinate them. The first part of the recommendation was to support the County of Wellington’s 10-year capital plan to increase funding into affordable and social housing. The second part was to support Centre Wellington’s healthy growth advisory committee (HGAC) to establish an attainable housing target and to send council recommendations on how to increase the supply of attainable housing. It was a single agenda item, but McElwain wanted these to be separate. Councillors Stephen Kitras and Bob Foster supported … [Read more...] about Bizarre Centre Wellington meeting ends after 10 minutes due to disagreement over agenda item

The former radio host and now much-loved telly star is brilliantly unapologetic when asked about the criticism of her on-screen clothing choices. Speaking about getting back into some racy outfits as the new host of BBC Three make-up contest Glow Up, Maya said: “I can’t bloody wait. “I’ve already planned my outfits for the first day of release like I’ve been in jail. “I’m going to wear what I want, as usual, and that’s how I’m going to stay. To be honest, I’ve always dressed this way. “It only became a topic recently, so I’m just going to continue. And that’s that.” It’s not hard to see why Bristol-born Maya is fast becoming one of the UK’s best-known faces.
