The Pandemic Will Likely End In One Of These Four Ways

If the White House’s vision goes according to plan, vaccinations will end the pandemic in the US in time for 4th of July fireworks . Or the pandemic won’t end, and these shots will be the first of many we’ll get for years. Or they’ll offer a brief summer respite — before a more severe version of the coronavirus catches fire. A return to a life resembling normalcy looks closer than ever now that, as of Monday, vaccines are available to every adult in America . Around 80 million people are already fully vaccinated , and President Joe Biden said on Wednesday that the US has already reached his goal of 200 million shots in the first 100 days of his administration, eight days early. But with half of the population still unvaccinated and COVID-19 cases once more rising , just how close are we to the pandemic ending, both in the US and across the world? Whether the pandemic ends in the US by Independence Day — or much further in the future — will depend on the vaccines, … [Read more...] about The Pandemic Will Likely End In One Of These Four Ways

Josef Fares’ It Takes Two handles divorce in the sweetest way possible

Game designer Josef Fares makes a lot of games about relationships. First there was Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons that tackled themes of loss of a parental figure and the unbreakable emotional bond between family members. Then there was A Way Out, which explored the relationship of friends-turned-rivals on different sides of the law. It Takes Two, Fares’ latest game from Swedish developer Hazelight Studios, explores the relationship between husband and wife – specifically a husband and wife going through a prickly, unpleasant divorce who have been turned into dolls by their daughter until they can reconcile their differences. The premise is that the two lead characters, Cody and May, have drifted apart due to their focus on work, hobbies, raising their child and, well, everything that isn’t each other. To put the pieces back together they’ll need to confront their marital problems head-on and, with a little help from a talking Book of Love, find what made their relationship so … [Read more...] about Josef Fares’ It Takes Two handles divorce in the sweetest way possible

Dealing with insecurity the el-Rufai way [opinion]

Kindly Share This Story: By Sunday Onyemaechi Eze EVEN the deaf can hear the rhythm of the prevailing chaos in the country. One could feel the heavy hands of the grave danger. There are no pretences about it. Internal peace and security of lives have departed. Lives are snuffed out of citizens day-in, day-out with impunity by criminal elements and unknown gunmen. In today’s Nigeria, life and living has no meaning! Banditry, kidnapping and Boko Haram insurgency have held sway for too long. There is growing threat of hunger arising from mounting challenges confronting farmers. What about the increasing sense of collective despair and despondency among the populace. The people no longer trust their government. In fact, government’s inability to crush security threats, despite saying so, has fuelled suspicion in some quarters that either people in government or their allies are behind the carnage. Centrifugal forces like the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB; the Oodua … [Read more...] about Dealing with insecurity the el-Rufai way [opinion]

Broke Robert De Niro ‘has to take every project that comes along to pay for ex-wife’s £850k diamond rings’

HE is the Hollywood titan behind some of the industry’s biggest-ever hits – but also some of its most cringeworthy misses. Now film fans finally know why Robert De Niro — star of Raging Bull and Taxi Driver — also features in flops such as Last Vegas and Dirty Grandpa. De Niro’s lawyer has said the Oscar winner takes “every project that comes along” in order to pay for his ex-wife’s “thirst for Stella McCartney” and £850,000 diamond rings. The embarrassing revelation came in the midst of his bitter divorce from US socialite Grace Hightower , after their 21-year marriage collapsed in 2018. His lawyer Caroline Krauss said the costly divorce may explain why he has gone from The Godfather Part II and The Deer Hunter to The War With Grandpa and fronting an ad for British breadmaker Warburtons. She told a Manhattan judge: “Mr De Niro is 77 years old. While he loves his craft, he should not be forced to work at this prodigious pace because he has to. When does that stop? … [Read more...] about Broke Robert De Niro ‘has to take every project that comes along to pay for ex-wife’s £850k diamond rings’
