The crude oil was trading at USD 65.69 (Rs. 4,813 approx.) for a barrel whereas the West Texas Intermediate (WTI) were at USD 62.70/ barrel on Wednesday (March 3). The fuel prices were going high a while ago and recorded an all-time high Saturday (February 27). The petrol price for a litre in the national capital is Rs. 91.17, in Kolkata, it is Rs. 91.35. Rs. 93.11 per litre in Chennai. Mumbai has to pay the highest amount for a litre of petrol at Rs. 97.57. Diesel is the most commonly used combustion fuel and it remained stable too. India to see gas share rise to 10% by 2025: GAIL director
India may see the share of natural gas in its energy basket rise to 10% by 2025 as a result of massive investment push in the creation of infrastructure to take the environment-friendly fuel to consumers, GAIL Director (Marketing) E.S. Ranganathan said on Friday. Currently, natural gas makes up about 6.2% of the entire energy consumption in the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has set a target of raising the share of natural gas in the energy basket to 15% by 2030 to cut carbon emission in the economy. “With gas demand (growing at) CAGR (of) 8%, gas is expected to account for around 10% of India’s primary energy supply by 2025,” Mr. Ranganathan said at a PHDCCI webinar. Finance Ministry begins discussion on easing diesel-petrol prices
New Delhi : Amid mounting pressure from all the quarters to reduce taxes on petrol and diesel, the Finance Ministry vigorously started to discuss the burning issue which has created a hole in consumers' pockets, sources told on Tuesday. "The government is discussing as to what extent the taxes could be cut, and that too, without having much stress on either the Centre or the state government. The discussion has been started among the Ministry officials on how to bring the Centre and government on a platform where relief from high fuel prices can be given to the common man," said highly placed sources. They said that the Finance Ministry is exploring all kinds of possible options to handle the imminent crisis and is trying to bring states and the Centre at one platform to ensure an expeditious reduction of the prices.
