Dybala stunner sends Juve top with closed-doors win over Inter

TURIN: A wonderful winning goal from substitute Paulo Dybala sent Juventus back to the top of Serie A with a 2-0 victory over title rivals Inter Milan at an empty Allianz Stadium on Sunday. Juve, who opened the scoring through Aaron Ramsey, lead on 63 points, one ahead of Lazio and nine clear of Inter in third, although Antonio Conte's side have a game in hand. Midfielder Ramsey fired home the first goal from close range soon after the break and was also involved in the second. Juventus's Argentine forward Dybala exchanged passes with the Wales international on the edge of the area before dribbling around defender Ashley Young and showing great invention to find the bottom corner with the outside of his boot. The game was played without fans present after the Italian government ordered that all matches are held behind closed doors until April 3. Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic returned from injury and they were grateful to have the Slovenian back as he blocked a Matthijs … [Read more...] about Dybala stunner sends Juve top with closed-doors win over Inter

Commentary: E-scooter ban on footpaths – here’s a list of those who got off scot-free

SINGAPORE: Are personal mobility devices (PMDs) really that bad? The numbers tell a terrible story. Six PMD riders dead between January 2017 and September this year reported by Tan Tock Seng Hospital alone. ‘DO SOMETHING’ It wouldn’t be Singapore if someone didn’t say “the Government should do something”. Member of Parliament (MP) Lim Biow Chuan obliged last month, among a sea of many other MPs calling for harsher punishments for errant e-scooter riders. There was a public petition to ban them from public footpaths, with more than 69,000 signatures. So, came new rules. Rossi won’t have less pressure as satellite MotoGP rider

For the first time in his career, Rossi will not race a Yamaha in its factory colours after agreeing a one-year deal with Petronas for 2021 – though remains on a works contract. Rossi hasn’t won a grand prix since the 2017 Dutch TT and only scored one podium in 2021 – marking the first time this has happened since his first year with Ducati in 2011. Speaking after Petronas' 2021 launch event, Stigefelt feels Rossi approaches his new team with the same mindset of trying to be a regular podium finisher. “I think he will not have less pressure, he really wants to perform,” Stigefelt said. “And he’s coming to the team on the mindset to try to be on the podium and try to win a race again and to win races. “We know it’s very hard, but I think it’s for everybody sometimes good to change their environment. And coming into a new team but with some of his staff coming with him, the combination of our mechanics, young mechanics and his staff, his crew chief David [Munoz] is very … [Read more...] about Rossi won’t have less pressure as satellite MotoGP rider

SRT “seemed more upset” than Yamaha at 2020 title loss

Fabio Quartararo was Yamaha’s leading rider for much of the 2020 season, with his three victories keeping him in the lead of the championship until the Aragon Grand Prix when a front tyre pressure issue dropped him to a career-worst 18th. From that point, Quartararo’s title hopes quickly evaporated and he ended the campaign eighth in the standings. Yamaha’s hopes of the constructors’ championship were also severely affected by a loss of 50 points handed to it as punishment for running illegal engines at the season-opening Spanish GP – the Japanese marque losing out to Ducati by 17 points in the finale in Portugal. Asked about rumours of disharmony between Petronas and Yamaha last year, Razali confirmed his team felt as if it was just a “paying customer” rather than a works-supported partner. But tensions have since been diffused as Yamaha “recognised” Petronas’ concerns and a the first draft of a new proposal covering 2022-2026 has been tabled. “We have addressed … [Read more...] about SRT “seemed more upset” than Yamaha at 2020 title loss

For the third time this season, MotoGP returns to the same circuit for a second grand prix, which also follows on from a one-day test on Tuesday. San Marino GP race winner Franco Morbidelli set the early pace on his Petronas Yamaha with a 1m33.194s, before KTM's Pol Espargaro moved into top spot with a 1m32.390s. Morbidelli - who was absent from Tuesday's test due to a stomach upset - returned to the top of the pile with just under 15 minutes gone with a 1m32.365s, He would better this in the final 15 minutes to a 1m32.224s, with Ducati's Andrea Dovizioso deposing him with six minutes to go on a soft tyre time attack. Dovizioso, who struggled throughout the San Marino weekend but made a breakthrough in set-up in the test, went fastest with a 1m32.152s. This stood as the benchmark very briefly, as Joan Mir guided his Suzuki to the first sub 1m32s lap of the day with a 1m31.926s.
