SINGAPORE: Singapore's core inflation fell deeper into negative territory in March, largely due to a steeper decline in the cost of services, according to data published on Thursday (Apr 23). Inflation is expected to remain subdued going forward, reflecting the impact from the COVID-19 outbreak and lower oil prices, said the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI) in a joint press release. Core inflation, a key policy consideration for MAS, fell to -0.2 per cent on a year‐on‐year basis in March, from ‐0.1 per cent in February. The gauge, which excludes the price of private transport and accommodation, slipped into deflation for the first time in more than a decade in February . Similarly, CPI‐All Items inflation dipped to 0 per cent year‐on‐year in March, from 0.3 per cent in the previous month. The best racing games for the PS4
The PlayStation brand of consoles has always had a strong tie to the racing genre. Each console has had a great mix of exclusive and third-party racing titles that looked, and played, fantastic on the hardware. The PlayStation 4 was the biggest success Sony had since the PS2, but at the same time seemed to have far fewer pure racing games released on the system. All of Sony’s marketing and promotion shifted during this generation to its big first-party exclusives like The Last of Us Part 2 , God of War , and Ghost of Tsushima with little to no love being shown to the racing fans. Even though Sony itself wasn’t pushing the genre, the PS4 has some of the best racing games ever developed ready for you to set a new course record on. The number to choose from is a little overwhelming, but we’ve culled the pack down to only the fastest, brightest, and, most importantly, fun racing games the system has to offer. Racing, as a genre, is broader than some people may think, so we’ve … [Read more...] about The best racing games for the PS4
On Being an Ally
I was sitting at my desk when a friend called. By friend , I don’t mean a member of that small group of people I speak to every day. I also don’t mean an acquaintance I rarely saw or kept contact with. He was comfortably in that middle group—someone I spoke to about once a month. We met within the last year. There was plenty left to learn about each other. His voice was quieter than usual. Subdued. He said, “Are you okay? I’m just calling to check in on you.” I had no idea what he was talking about. My last few weeks had been uneventful. It was summertime, so work was quiet. And I hadn’t shared anything with anyone that could’ve been misinterpreted as me having a hard time, so this question should not have been the first thing I heard when I picked up the phone. Perhaps he called the wrong person. I said, “Yeah. Why do you ask?” “I just heard about what happened.” It was 2016. He was talking about Philando Castile, who had just been killed by a police officer in his car in … [Read more...] about On Being an Ally
No bribes or cities named “Amazon”: Colorado’s pitch to get the next headquarters touts incentives that could exceed $100M
There were no promises to create a Colorado city called Amazon. There were no bribes from the state like the 21-foot cactus an Arizona city sent to get the massive retailer to build a second headquarters there. And there was no way Colorado was going to touch one state’s lavish offer of $7 billion in public incentives. Colorado, which doesn’t plan to ask taxpayers for more funding to lure Amazon, on Wednesday submitted a more subdued proposal that state officials hope will attract a new employer and bring up to 50,000 jobs to the Denver region. The state emailed the official bid a day before Amazon’s deadline, as well as mailed five paper copies overnight to the Seattle retailer’s headquarters. “Colorado’s proposal does not lead with incentives. It leads with talent,” said Sam Bailey, who led the Metro Denver Economic Development Corp. in working with the state to submit the official bid. “Ultimately, 50,000 jobs shouldn’t be led with incentives but a community that has the … [Read more...] about No bribes or cities named “Amazon”: Colorado’s pitch to get the next headquarters touts incentives that could exceed $100M
Employers, workers can take steps to support mental well-being during COVID-19 pandemic: MOM
SINGAPORE: Uncertainties in work arrangements caused by the COVID-19 pandemic can have detrimental effects on mental health and authorities here have outlined a range of suggestions to help both employees and employers cope. An inter-agency grouping comprising the Ministry of Manpower (MOM), the Ministry of Social and Family Development, the Agency for Integrated Care, the Institute of Mental Health and the National Council of Social Service issued an advisory on Friday (Apr 24) addressing the issue. The advisory highlighted job security and worries about revenue sources as some of the potential stress points for employees and self-employed persons. The dangers of social isolation as a result of work from home arrangements, as well as the balancing act faced by working parents with children undergoing home-based learning , were two other mental health stressors the agencies spoke about. "During this period of uncertainty, employers and workers could consider taking … [Read more...] about Employers, workers can take steps to support mental well-being during COVID-19 pandemic: MOM
