German police seize man who took woman hostage in Cologne train station

COLOGNE: German police said on Monday (Oct 15) that they had subdued and detained a man who took a woman hostage in a pharmacy in Cologne's central train station. "The perpetrator is under control. Police measures are continuing," Cologne police wrote on Twitter just after 3pm after commandos had stormed the shop. "A female hostage has been lightly wounded and is being cared for," they added, calling on the public to keep their distance from the area. The hostage-taker also suffered injuries, a police spokesperson said, adding that the man's motives were not yet known. An AFP correspondent at the scene said he heard two stun grenade explosions as police stormed and secured the pharmacy. Several heavily armed officers from a special response unit were seen immediately afterwards running across the Breslauer Platz square, on the opposite side of the tracks from the city's famous twin-spired cathedral. Earlier on Monday, eyewitnesses had reported hearing shots and possible … [Read more...] about German police seize man who took woman hostage in Cologne train station

Watch maskless Conor McGregor buy Proper No12 whiskey from off licence and laugh off punchy price tag for his own drink

CONOR McGREGOR popped to his local off license to buy his own Proper No12 whiskey - and even joked about the 'heavy' £35 price. The UFC superstar has branched out to successfully launch businesses and partnerships in fashion, fitness and entertainment. But apart from his fighting career, the growth of his whiskey product has proved the most lucrative. So much so that McGregor claimed Proper 12, released in 2018, raked in £750m in its first year. And it was no surprise when the 32-year-old found just two bottles left when he visited a Kildare shop. McGregor filmed himself purchasing one, without a face mask, and even laughed off the cost as he thanked the local support. He told the cashier: "I'll buy the second to last bottle. I really appreciate that, it really means a lot to me to see the support. "€41 euros? Youse are charging a bit heavy for it as well! That's alright!" MMA: Angela Lee could lose unbeaten record in upcoming bout, says ONE chairman

SINGAPORE: Mixed martial arts (MMA) star Angela Lee could potentially lose her undefeated record when she faces China's Xiong Jing Nan for the strawweight title (up to 57kg) next month, ONE Championship founder and chairman Chatri Sityodtong said on Thursday (Oct 18). Lee has been ONE's atomweight (up to 52kg) champion since May 2016, but is vying to become the first female MMA fighter world champion across two divisions by snatching Xiong's strawweight title. The pair will headline ONE Championship's Heart of the Lion event at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Nov 9. Speaking at a global conference call on the upcoming event, Sityodtong said: "Angela Lee is facing the biggest challenge of her life. I actually don't know why Angela is doing this, moving up a weight class to fight a bigger, stronger world champion with knockout power. "But this going to be an explosive fight. I predict this fight is going to end in one or two rounds. It could be Angela's first potential loss, … [Read more...] about MMA: Angela Lee could lose unbeaten record in upcoming bout, says ONE chairman

Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible filming scrapped as crew fly home from the Middle East

MISSION Impossible’s all about pulling off the unfeasible – but shooting the film during a pandemic is a challenge too far for leading man Tom Cruise and his team. He flew the cast and crew to the Middle East for the latest run of scenes, but has been forced to end filming of the seventh instalment of the franchise after people refused to work any longer. Production staff demanded they were allowed to head back to the UK this weekend before hotel quarantine rules come into effect on Monday. Studio bosses have now had to charter a private jet to bring them home because they were up in arms about not being able to return to their families. A movie insider said: “The whole production has hit yet another issue and there have been revolts among the cast and crew. “For quite a few of them, the prospect of having to quarantine in a hotel back in the UK is a step too far and they’ve demanded to be flown home before the rules change. The studio has had to fund a jet back and the … [Read more...] about Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible filming scrapped as crew fly home from the Middle East
